Foster Care Prayer Vigil – Hosts Needed

May
11

I have supported Hope for Orphans since 2006 and it is my fervent prayer that others in the mom blogging space will join with Hope for Orphans for the National Foster Care Prayer Vigil.

Five years ago during a gathering of orphan advocates at Saddleback Church I stood at a small table and registered those who would commit to pray. That day I slowly watched the map of the United States fill up with prayer vigils being committed to all across this nation of ours.

Wouldn’t it be amazing if we could virtually hold a Foster Care Prayer Vigil?  Join with me on Monday, May 21st and use your blog to pray for children in the foster care system. And commit yourself and your family to continue to pray every evening that week.

Be The Mom in prayer, for those who have no mom.

Join with me on May 21st as my post becomes a prayer and I ask those who visit my blog to write a prayer in the comments.

Please register your own virtual Prayer Vigil by visiting the Cry of the Orphan website.

Day of Prayer

Apr
24

Twice a year Cru (formally known as Campus Crusade for Christ) has a Day of Prayer in which all of the people involved with all of their different ministry outreaches cease striving and spend the day before the Lord in prayer.

What an amazing spiritual discipline for each of us to practice – extended, focused time in prayer.

We met together at a state park and had a time of aloneness in God’s creation going before the Lord in prayer and we also had times where we met together and gathered in groups to pray. It was indeed a rich day.

Might I suggest that right now you place a day on your calendar in the coming weeks where you will cease striving and spend the day in prayer. Whether you do so alone, gather with a group of friends or as a family I know you will be blessed.

And that is all I have to say today…as I am feeling so much at peace I am signing off!

God Did That!

We had guests over the weekend. My favorite kind of guests – teenagers.

My daughter came home from college for the weekend and brought three friends with her.  There are only two weeks left to their Freshman year in college so it was a sweet time of lots of good home cookin and many rich conversations – a year in review reflections and the sharing future dreams wonderings!

On Saturday night we had a couple of adults join us, as I always think it’s good to allow the college students to hear from and mingle with interesting people.  One of the friends there marveled at these young adults that are now a part of our daughters every day life.

We were sitting around the backyard firepit, listening to one play the violin, one play the guitar and the other one singing sweetly – we all joined in on their beautiful praises to the Lord. This is always a highlight to my daughter’s trips home with her friends.

One of our adult guests asked my husband and I how we managed to pull that off. “Pull what off?” I asked.  He said these three students with your daughter are amazing.  I told him that we have always prayed that our children would be friends with people that are chasing after God and we specifically and especially prayed for this as our daughter was preparing to go to college. His reply, “I think I need to get more specific with my prayers for my own kids.”

So, “this just in” if you realize you know a specific need for your child pray that specific need and believe God for it. And speak that need over your child as well.

I would be happy to agree with you for that prayer, please feel free to leave your child’s specific need in the comment area below.

Soul Surfer – Meet Her For Real

Mar
30

I had the amazing pleasure of meeting Bethany Hamilton and her mom Cheri during their recent visit to FamilyLife. What a joy they both were – this is a mom and daughter who are truly connected.

Soul Surfer, the movie about Bethany’s life and the life altering encounter she had with a shark is being released April 9th.  The shark attack is probably going to be the draw for many movie goers…but they will gain so much more as they see her life unfold before their eyes. This is a family whose faith is at the center of their lives and seeing the story behind the story is the real blessing in this movie.

Allow me to introduce you to Bethany…and I hope you’ll make plans (with lots of friends) to go see the movie because it has it all – drama, action, excitement…and it will leave you wanting to know more about this amazing family!

30 Day Challenge…For Your Daughter

Aug

My fellow blogger over on MomLife Today, Mrs. Dannah Gresh, is doing something magnificent on her Secret Keeper Girl website – she’s challenging moms to spend 30 days in prayer for their daughters!

Wanna commit to doing just that with me?

My sweet, wonderful 17 year old daughter is entering her senior year of High School and I am all for being a part of Dannah’s prayer challenge!  There are more than a few decisions my daughter will be faced with during her senior year as she curiously peers forward into her anticipated future. This suggested opportunity to devote daily prayer time for  her fills me with much happiness!

I have decided that I will even journal my prayers and then give my daughter the journal upon completion!

Sweet!

Thanks Dannah!
